FirstStop WebSearch, LLC
FirstStop WebSearch, LLC evolved as a result of unexpected fame. In December 2000 Brush Systems Group, Inc. (BSG) released FirstStop WebSearch™ to the public as freeware to test its meta search performance. During the first week, we experienced thousands of down loads and in the following weeks we received an overwhelming number of awards and kudos from grateful users.

Over the next four months we registered over a quarter million downloads. This presented a great opportunity, but an interesting challenge for BSG. BSG had all of its resources committed to a demonstration productą for FirstStop Component Technologies™ (FSCT). Also the intended user interface for the web search was based on using an Internet browser. The Windows interface was only intended to be temporary to facilitate the public testing of the search performance.

Consequently, FirstStop WebSearch, LLC was formed in January 2001 to refine and market the web search component. FirstStop WebSearch™ was officially released on May 1, 2001.

Answers to common questions

What is the FirstStop WebSearch™ for?

For individuals, corporations or organizations that want fast, quality internet search results that can be refined at "desktop" speeds and saved in useful formats. FirstStop WebSearch™ offers sophisticated information retrieval with a built-in wizard for advance searches; result management and analysis; result tracking and reporting; and result sharing functions - it is a desktop office application for Internet users. Users of FirstStop experience a large increase in productivity from its automated searches, since the user simultaneously taps into the best sources and is then provided consolidated results.

Why search multiple engines?

A single search engine only holds a small percentage of the information available on the Internet. In addition, there is very little overlap from one search engine to the other. A good selection of multiple sites significantly improves the quantity and quality of search results.

The meta search (multi-search engine search) provide information coverage, independence from the nuances of particular search engines, and speed. They also provide a measure of robustness since they are not tied to a particular search engine.

"One powerful way to search the Web isn't a specific site but software that acts as a "meta" search engine, looking for links to relevant Web sites by querying several search engines at once."
