Release of an open XML meta search interface.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OPEN SPECIFICATION BREAKS THE LIMIT TO META SEARCHING
ATASCADERO, California February 19, 2002 -- FirstStop WebSearch LLC. has announced publication of an open (XML) specification which allows the public to extend the capabilities of FirstStop WebSearch to access the vast number of information resources that can be found on the Internet, Intranets, and extranet.
Since each Internet search site utilizes its own particular format for query and response information, the FirstStop WebSearch™ application incorporates a library, which describes the expected data formats provided by the various individual Internet search sites for formatting queries and parsing response data. These formats are defined in the Search Engine Pattern (SEP) specification. The information returned by the search sites for display and use is interpreted by the FirstStop WebSearch™ application, utilizing the Search Engine Results (SER) Specification.
Brush Systems Group, Inc has expressed confidence that the open specification will promote a standard for communication between software applications. To support the XML FirstStop WebSearch™ Interface specification, Brush Systems Group, Inc. will provide supporting software tools and documents for FREE download. The SEP and SER specifications and a software tool, the "SEP Editor", which offers developers the ability to build new and to manage existing Web search engine patterns, have already been released for use. www.FirstStopWebSearch.com
Additionally, developers may use the open XML specification independent of FirstStop WebSearch™ and may integrate multiple search sources into their data flow. This specification is useful for any system designer seeking a standard and inter-operable XML definition for processing search data. The specification includes comprehensive elements contained in most search sources. As developers identify new data needs, the FirstStop search specification may be extended to support additional data elements and industry segments.
In e-business, Extensible Markup Language (XML) is becoming the cross-platform data format standard. XML is an ubiquitous artery for inter-company transactions that link diverse platforms and legacy systems. Essentially, XML is the HTML of business systems. Just as all browsers can process HTML universally, business systems are being enabled to process XML data files via a common standard. XML is replacing many specialized and proprietary formats as it gains broad acceptance from businesses and individuals who recognize its capacity for expansion.
The FirstStop WebSearch™ Extensible Markup Language (XML) WebSearch Interface Specification provides a cross-industry, inter-operable message format which enables processing of enhanced data across regions and industry sectors. As a result, FirstStop WebSearch™ customers will be able to accept and process enhanced data through a growing number of systems and reporting packages.
FSWS LLC is hopeful that the open specification will promote a universal standard for communication between software applications. FirstStop WebSearch™ plans to work with several XML governing bodies to urge its official adoption as the common standard.
