What is the Stop List?

The Stop List allows you to list words which can be ignored (omitted) when the Discovery Tree is built. The Discovery Tree considers every word found in your search results unless you choose to use a Stop List, in which case it includes all words except those on the Stop List.

A Stop List is often used to omit words of questionable importance such as 'the', 'a' and 'and' in English. Omitting just a few high-frequency words can greatly reduce the size and improve the relevance of the Discovery Tree.

To View and Edit a Stop List.

To prepare or edit a Stop List, turn the Discovery Tree on. Note that you must have search results to be able to display the Discovery Tree.

Above the window with the Discovery Tree you will see two captions: Stop Words and Sort. Select the Stop Words by clicking on the Stop Words caption. The Stop Words dialog box will appear with the currently selected stop word list.

Load... - load a custom Stop List from file. The filename of the default Stop List is 'stopwords.stop'

New - create your own Stop List

Save As - save your current Stop List to file.

OK - save the changes and close the Stop Words dialog box

Cancel - discard changes and close the Stop Words dialog box
